Die Kodierung der Anästhesie mit einem Kode aus 8-90 sollte sich auf Ausnahmesituationen beschränken. Dies gilt beispielsweise dann, wenn Schockpatienten, Kleinkinder oder nicht kooperative Patienten eine Anästhesie erhalten, damit eine diagnostische oder therapeutische Prozedur durchgeführt werden kann, die normalerweise ohne Anästhesie erbracht wird. Gibt es einen Kode für die durchgeführte Prozedur, so ist dieser zusammen mit einem Kode aus 8-90 für die Anästhesie anzugeben (siehe Beispiel 1). Gibt es keinen Kode für die durchgeführte Prozedur, so ist der Kode aus 8-90 für Anästhesie alleine anzugeben.<br />
